Sri Lanka is an island nation floating in the southwest of the Indian subcontinent.
A beautiful country known as the Pearl of the Indian Ocean, which became independent after a long period of colonial rule.
It is a republic made up of the Sinhalese people, who are Buddhists, and the Tamils, who believe in Hinduism.
Discrimination against women still exists, and the reality is that girls who have suffered domestic violence become socially vulnerable and live difficult lives.
By chance, I decided that I wanted to teach the Japanese traditional culture of braiding to girls in this country, and I ended up visiting there 11 times.
The place I visit every time is a rural area about 10km away from the center of the tourist city of Kandy.
About 50 girls live together there, and an organization called WDC protects them.
The land area of Sri Lanka is approximately the size of Japan's Shikoku and Kyushu combined, and approximately 21 million people live there.
The main industries include tourism, ports, rubber plantations, and tea.
Basically, tuition is free and medical expenses are free, but we are currently suffering from financial difficulties.
